Campus I of Feevale University (Av. Dr. Maurício Cardoso, 510, Hamburgo Velho, Novo Hamburgo) has been receiving, since this Saturday, the 4th, families left homeless by the floods caused by the heavy rains of the last few days. The gym was organized to welcome people and their animals, who, in case of illness, are being sent to the Integrated Center for Health Specialties (Cies), on the Institution's Campus II, in Novo Hamburgo, and to the Feevale Veterinary Hospital (Hovet), in Campo Bom.

The community, in general, is being served at the Integrated Center for Health Specialties (CIES). According to the director of the Institute of Health Sciences (ICS), Caren Mello Guimarães, professors and students from the Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy courses are involved in various actions in the space, located at Rua Rubem Berta, 200, in Novo Hamburgo.

In addition to basic care, teleconsultations are taking place with medical teams and the van dedicated to the course is also transporting people to the space. The Pharmacy course is producing, in its laboratory, antipyretic medicines for distribution to families in need and will provide hygiene kits for distribution, containing creams, shampoos and other products.

Campus I is one of the points for receiving donations. Necessary items include cleaning and personal hygiene materials, cleaning utensils, school supplies, blankets and bedding, infant and geriatric diapers, clothing and shoes, drinking water, non-perishable food and pet food. Another point for receiving donations is Campus II (ERS-239, 2755, Novo Hamburgo), in the Dean of Research, Postgraduate Studies and Extension (Proppex), on the 2nd floor of the Lilás building.

At Campus III, in Campo Bom, the Feevale Veterinary Hospital (Hovet) is receiving donations for animals from regions affected by the floods. The Veterinary Medicine course and the Academic Directory (DA) are collecting collars, leashes, towels, blankets, transport boxes and food. In addition to the collection points in Novo Hamburgo, materials can be delivered to Hovet, located at Alameda da Inovação, 212, Zona Industrial de Campo Bom.

Teams from the social project Laboratory of Vulnerabilities, Risks and Society (LaVuRS) and the Postgraduate Program in Environmental Quality at Feevale University are also circulating in neighborhoods in the cities of Vale do Sinos to verify the main needs of residents. The Associação Pró-Ensino Superior em Novo Hamburgo (Aspeur), which maintains Feevale, also provided a vehicle for the Medicine course and a boat, for Civil Defense and for the Rio Grande do Sul Military Fire Department to rescue families.

Rector Cleber Prodanov highlights that Feevale is providing technical support and promoting various actions to help people affected by the floods. “Feevale, once again, is present in initiatives aimed at society. Our teachers and staff are committed to helping the victims of this great disaster. We hope that the communities have peace and

tranquility, and that we can soon overcome this tragedy,” he says. Also present this Sunday were the president of Aspeur, Marcelo Clark Alves, the executive superintendent Roberto Sarquis Berte, pro-rectors, directors of institutes and course coordinators.

Helicopter from Rio de Janeiro will be based at Campus I

The football field at Feevale University Campus I will be the base for a helicopter from Rio de Janeiro, which is arriving in Novo Hamburgo to help rescue the families. The crew will also be welcomed by the Institution.

At the end of the afternoon of this Sunday, the 5th, the gym already had around 100 people and 20 animals. Another 25 were sent to the Feevale Veterinary Hospital, in Campo Bom. On Saturday, Luan da Rocha, resident of the Santo Afonso neighborhood, in Novo Hamburgo, was rescued and taken to the space. “My dog, Belinha, and I were very well received. She was seen by a vet and given anti-inflammatories, as she is injured. I arrived here cold. They welcomed me, gave me clothes, shoes and a bath towel. I also had dinner and breakfast. I’m very grateful for everything,” he says.

At this critical time for all Gauchos, teaching activities at Feevale University are suspended until Saturday, 11th. Undergraduate and postgraduate classes and internships will be resumed at the end of the academic period. The Feevale Application School also suspended classes until Friday, the 10th.
