Undergraduate Research Fair - FIC

1. What is it?

The Feira de Iniciação Científica (FIC) is an event managed to undergraduate students that are developing junior research, enabling the provision of the advances in knowledge arising from these activities. It is an activity that fosters the presentation of scientific and technological innovations in various areas of knowledge.
The FIC strengthens scientific research and the applicability of its results, establishing an interaction between members of the academic community and the society, fostering an exchange of timely and successful experiences between them.
Papers originated from junior research must be methodological, present results and contribute to the knowledge progress.

2. What are the goals?

FIC's general goal is to promote the dissemination and exchange the junior research developed by undergraduate students under the counseling of professors in every areas of knowledge. The specific goals are:

  • - Contribute to the student's academic training and learning, developing their creative capacity;
  • - Disseminate the scientific research culture;
  • - Foster the interaction between undergraduate programs and scientific knowledge areas;
  • - Disseminate the results of scientific and technological output in all lines of research, particularly of works that show innovative potential;
  • - Promote the exchange of experiences among participants;
  • - Enable integration between students and professors involved in undergraduate research activities in various areas of knowledge;

3. Why come to FIC?

FIC nurtures various experiences that contribute to an academic and professional background of the participants:

  • Contribution to students' academic background and consequent improvement of their professional qualification;
  • Opportunity to publish an abstract in a scientific event, recognized as a complementary activity, according tom  the curriculum of each undergraduate program; ;
  • Relevant publication in the selection process of masters and/or doctorate programs;
  • Preparation for the stages of developing and defending a final thesis for the undergraduate program;
  •  Expansion of knowledge, resulting from the  presentation of papers during thematic sessions and virtual poster displays.

4. Who can submit papers?

The FIC accepts paper submissions from undergraduate students at Feevale and other higher education institutions under the counseling of professors, and also from students who have completed their undergraduate program, considering that the work must be a product of their undergraduate activities.

Requirements for submission of papers by non-Brazilian authors.

5. When is the application period?

June 10h to August 02th through the website www.feevale.br/fic. The event regulation can be found at the FIC website.

6. How much does it cost to apply?

The FIC accepts paper submissions from undergraduate students from Feevale and other higher education institutions under the counseling of professors, and also from students who have completed their undergraduate course, provided that the work is a product of their undergraduate activities.

  • Undergraduate scholars from Feevale: R$ 25,00 (twenty five reais) for each work submitted;
  • Undergraduate scholars from other higher education institutions: R$ 30,00 (thirty reais) for each work submitted;
  • Scholars enrolled in the Undergraduate Research Program suc as PIBIC/PIBITI - CNPq and PROBIC/PROBITI - FAPERGS: free of charge.

7. How will paper presentations work?

Papers accepted for presentation at the event will be evaluated through the abstract, virtual poster and oral presentations during thematic sessions, organized according to the field into which the paper was applied.

8. Videoconferencing

This mode of presentation can be used by participants from institutions outside Brazil, who cannot be at the event facilities. If this presentation mode is used, after applying through the system, participants should send an email to inovamundi@feevale.br stating this need, so the appropriate arrangements can be made.

Technical specifications about videoconferencing are as follows:

- System:
Our Videoconferencing spaces uses a set of POLYCOM VSX7000 equipment.We are able to connect, simultaneously, with up to three other different sites equipped with videoconferencing via IP; we have no connection via ISDN.

- Type of connection:
IP: Connection via Internet link, with quality and communication speed depending on Internet bandwidth variation at the ends, providers, AS, and national / international connections (PPT).

Important:
- If participants do not have POLYCOM equipment, the NetMeeting and Skype may be used.
- Compatibility test to be conducted one week before the event (September 24 to September 28, 2012).
- The Institution will not be liable for any connection problems that prevent students from making their presentation.


The event is included as one of the activities of Inovamundi (www.feevale.br/inovamundi).
The general program is open to the public upon registration for specific activities. The press release will be available at the FIC website.

Inovamundi is a program to disseminate the scientific, technological and innovation knowledge developed at Feevale and at Higher Learning Institutions from Brazil and from foreign countries. It will be held on October 09th-11th and contemplate: the Seminário de Pós-Graduação - SPG, the Feira de Iniciação Científica - FIC, and the Feira de Introdução à Pesquisa - FIP.
